filter system and throughputs

The PAU Camera is equipped with a system of 40 narrow-band (13nm wide in steps of 10 nm) filters spanning the wavelength range from 450nm to 850nm, and with 6 wide-band filters (u, g, r, i, z, Y). Below we display the total system throughput including atmosphere, telescope, filter and detector:

filter trays

Filters are installed inside the camera on 11 filter trays. The broad band trays contain a single large filter covering all focal plane detectors. The narrow band trays contain 18 individual filters each one covering a single detector. Narrow band filters are only assigned to the 8 central detectors as these correspond to the highest quality image in the focal plane with less vignetting. The 10 external CCD’s in the NB filter trays are covered with BB filters. See the optics performance section for more details about the vignetting and the image quality.
